My Story
I will be taking part in the Manchester Half Marathon on Sunday 21st May to raise money for Mind's Mental Health. Having been someone that used to run quite frequently, moving to Manchester nearly 2 years ago meant I fell out of love with the sport and never made time for it. With that in mind, setting this challenge for myself has over the past few months has seen regular runs returning as part of my weekly routines.
The chosen charity is one that is quite personal to myself due to dealing with my own mental health challenges. As well as this, over recent years I have also been affected by friends that have chosen to take their own lives when they couldn't see another option; therefore this is a charity that is very close to home.
The work Mind's Mental Health do focuses on suicide intervention and prevention, specialising in developing and delivering psychological interventions for people who are suicidal, alongside campainging and raising awareness. With over 70% of suicides in the UK being men, the importance of raising awareness within this space is more important than ever.
Any donations would be immensely appreciated towards such an important cause.
Thanks in advance for your support and I'll hopefully see a few of you on the sidelines!
Here is some further information on the amazing work Men's Minds Matter do:
When you're experiencing a mental health problem, supportive and reliable information can change your life. That's what we do. We empower people to understand their condition and the choices available to them through the following:
-Our Infoline, which offers callers confidential help for the price of a local call.
-Our Legal Line, which provides information on mental health related law to the public, service users, family members/carers, mental health professionals and mental health advocates.
-Our award-winning information, certified by the PIF Tick.
"Mind was such an invaluable source of information. I can't put into words how helpful they were for both of us..."
