My Story

I am currently the "Caritas Rep" for my parish and along with trying to set up a "Community Breakfast Warm Hub" project in the church hall on a Sunday morning I thought it would be a good idea to also raise money for Caritas Salford by signing up to run 6 miles for them in May 2023.

Both seemed a good idea in December 2022.....

the warm hub eventuslly got going on 12th Febrary 2023 and went from strength to strength...

the "getting back into running" project was much simpler - at first!

I had done very litte running for years and even my last parkrun* was in 2021! So I started again from scratch, signing up for couch to 5K with my local running group RIOT (Running Is Our Therapy). I was feeling fairly confident I would be able to run 4-6 miles (and briskly walk the remainder) by 22nd May as I was running three times a week with RIOT and could feel my legs getting stronger but then COVID unexpectly popped up for a second time and completely wiped me out again. Several weeks later I was back running with RIOT but now struggling to keep up with the people I started the C25K with. On 13th March I staggered round my "graduation 5K run", and then was full of good intentions to build on this with couch to 10K programme... completely failed by not making a SMART goal Action Plan and what with Easter, etc etc

over the last few weeks  I have managed a few slow runs on my own but not broken the 5K barrier yet. In four weeks time I need to run twice as far

SO... I know lots of friends and family have sponsored me for running much further in the past but this one really is going to be a challenge. It is also for a fantastic charity that I know make a huge difference to people in Salford / Manchester area. Please support in any way you can

What does Caritas Salford do?

many thanks Clair
